02/22/2007 - East Rutherford, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - David West scored 32 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals as New Orleans/Oklahoma City edged New Jersey, 111-107, at the Continental Airlines Arena.
Chris Paul added 19 points and 11 assists for the Hornets, who snapped a six- game skid against New Jersey and won for the fifth time in seven games. Bobby Jackson chipped in with 17 points off the bench and Tyson Chandler finished with 10 points and 12 boards.
"We knew Vince (Carter) would get his," said West. "So we were just trying to respond and make them work at the defensive end."
Carter had a season-high 46 points for the Nets, who have lost three straight and seven of 10 games. Bostjan Nachbar tallied 15 points and Mikki Moore had 10.
"The shots were falling and I just kept attacking," said Carter. "I was just trying to get some momentum going because they are a great transition team.
Jason Kidd, the recent subject of trade rumors, returned after missing New Jersey's last two games and the All-Star game with a strained lower back. Kidd had just six points and was a dismal 2-of-14 from the floor.
The Nets entered the final quarter with a precarious three-point edge but the Hornets refused to go away. West stuck a jumper to put New Orleans/Oklahoma City back on top, 93-92, with 6:01 left.
The Hornets then continued to pull away a bit in the next few minutes. West's jumper off the glass gave them a 101-96 advantage with just 3:11 remaining.
Carter refused to let the Nets give up and deposited a three-point play 24 seconds later to make it a one-possession game, 101-99.
But, West connected on a pair of free throws and Chandler followed by knocking in 1-of-2 from the line to give the Hornets a 104-99 lead with 1:32 on the clock.
New Jersey had its chances in the final 1 1/2 minutes but Kidd missed a pair of wide open looks from three-point range and the Hornets made enough free throws to hold on.
The Hornets took a slim 27-25 advantage after the opening 12 minutes and extended that lead to six, 50-44, at intermission.
The Nets bounced back and used a solid third quarter to take a 79-76 edge into the final frame.
Game Notes
Nets coach Lawrence Frank lost to the Hornets for the first time...Carter was the only Nets player to score in the final 7 1/2 minutes of the game...New Jersey is now 14-14 as the host this year...The Hornets are just 9-19 as the visitor.
