11/05/2006 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Glen Murray scored the game-winning goal 17 seconds into the overtime period after Zdeno Chara tied the score in the final minute of regulation, and the Boston Bruins wrapped up a lengthy homestand with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Banknorth Garden.
With Lightning defenseman Filip Kuba in the sin bin because of a cross-checking penalty on Chara's tying goal, Murray fired a one-timer from the left circle to win the game on a two-man advantage.
After Tampa scored a franchise-record four second-period goals to lead 5-4 heading into the game's final minute, Boston took advantage of a power play to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
With Cory Sarich in the penalty box for a high-sticking double-minor, Chara tipped the puck into the goal mid-air on a deflection off Tampa goaltender Marc Denis' glove side with 46.6 seconds left. After a lengthy review, the goal stood and the game went into the extra session.
"I think it's very big," Chara said. "Finally, we came out with the two points at the end. Usually, in games before, we either lost a point or lost the game in the last couple of minutes and finally we saw the other side of the coin. We had some really good chances in the third, and second too, but those didn't go in but they did go in on my goal and then we got a big goal in overtime to get the two points."
Marc Savard had two goals and two assists for the Bruins, who have won two of three. P.J. Axelsson had a goal and an assist, and Phil Kessel added a score. Murray and Paul Mara had a pair of assists apiece.
Ruslan Fedotenko, Brad Richards, Nikita Alexeev, Martin St. Louis and Dimitry Afanasenkov each scored for the Lightning, who have lost four of five. Vincent Lecavalier added four assists.
"It didn't really get away that quickly in the third," St. Louis said. "It took 19 minutes to get away. We played a pretty solid period, I thought. But we got caught penalties at the end. We were actually fortunate to get a point because they could've scored that (game-winning) goal before the end of regulation with those penalties."
Hannu Toivonen blocked 16-of-21 shots and Tim Thomas had seven saves for the Bruins. Denis stopped 27-of-33 shots for Tampa Bay.
Savard got Boston on the board first on a slap shot 4:08 into the game. Fedotenko tied the score, 1-1, as he scored a backhander stick side from just in front of the crease on the power play about eight minutes later.
Richards then scored a wrister on the power play for a 2-1 Lightning lead, but Savard re-tied the score on a tip-in less than two minutes later.
Kessel wristed a shot through the five-hole from the slot off a rebound for a 3-2 Bruins lead at 11:03 of the second, but Alexeev answered a mere 10 seconds later on a slap shot for another tie score, 3-3.
Tampa responded about four minutes later, as St.Louis scored a wrister on a 4- on-4 just past an outstretched netminder's glove side. Axelsson followed with a power-play goal when he scored glove side off a 3-on-2 break.
The Bruins tied the score, 4-4, when Axelsson scored from the left circle to the glove side. Tampa then responded 27 seconds later when Afanasenkov wristed a score through the five-hole unassisted for a 5-4 Lightning lead.
