Indy keeping Pace in Central

02/22/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Indiana Pacers are a long shot to be the second championship squad in the state this year, but a lot of "intelligent" prognosticators picked the Colts to lose Super Bowl XLI and look what happened.

The Pacers always run out a decent product even after the retirement of Reggie Miller, and are still alive in the hunt for the playoffs. Led by Jermaine O'Neal, Jamaal Tinsley and Danny Granger, Rick Carlisle's squad has won three in a row and sits five games off Detroit's lead in the Central Division.

Cleveland is second at 2 1/2 games behind, while Chicago is tied with the Pacers, who completed a six-game road trip with a 3-3 mark and improved to 18-10 at Conseco Fieldhouse this season.

It wasn't easy for Indiana to get its third straight victory, as it needed double overtime to post a 136-129 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Jermaine O'Neal had 29 points and 15 rebounds for his 28th double-double of the season. The 11-year veteran has been the center of the Pacers' universe, but his seven-year contract expires following the 2009-10 season. O'Neal, though, can opt out after the 2007-08 campaign, thus leaving the franchise in total disarray.

The six-time All-Star, and face of the organization, leads the team in scoring (20.0) and rebounds (10.4) this season. If O'Neal departs within the next year or two, the Pacers will be forced to run the offense through Jamaal Tinsley and Danny Granger. Not that it's a bad idea to give more looks to the duo, but it's better to have a perennial All-Star in O'Neal in the lineup.

Meanwhile, Tinsley and teammate Marquis Daniels have been indicted by a grand jury for their alleged involvement in a fight at 8 Seconds Saloon earlier this month, according to the Indy Star. The two played in Tuesday's win over Milwaukee before turning themselves in to police shortly after midnight.

Under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, when a player is convicted of a violent felony, he is immediately suspended for a minimum of 10 games. The player then must agree to have a clinical evaluation and receive counseling if needed.

Tinsley faces a Class D felony intimidation charge because he allegedly threatened the bar's staff and said, "I will kill you." Also, a misdemeanor intimidation charge states Tinsley threatened to fight a staff member at 8 Seconds Saloon after he was asked to leave.

The Pacers released a statement on the incident:

"Jamaal Tinsley and Marquis Daniels have steadfastly insisted that they are innocent and did not engage in any unlawful or improper behavior on the night in question. A grand jury has only decided that a trial is needed to determine the facts. In our system of justice, grand juries do not find anyone guilty of anything. This process is very different than a trial, in which the proceedings are under the supervision of a judge who instructs the jury that an indictment is not evidence of anything.

"We hope that going forward the media coverage will be fair and unbiased and that the public will not rush to judgment. We need to give the process time to treat everyone fairly and reach a just result. The Pacers hope the media and the public will join with us in affording the presumption of innocence to Jamaal and Marquis. The Pacers believe due process requires it."

Daniels was charged with battery and disorderly conduct, both of which are misdemeanors.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.

(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977.  Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.

Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer.  In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.

MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season.  Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite.  After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.

Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions.  They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals.  The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
